ribosome-inactivating proteins (сокр. RIP)[англ. ribo(se) — рибоза, от перестановки букв в англ. arabinose — арабиноза и греч. soma — тело; лат. in — приставка, означающая отрицание, и activus — действенный]группа белков растительного и бактериального происхождения, которые являются каталитическими ингибиторами трансляции на эукариотических и в некоторых случаях прокариотических рибосомах. Различают 2 типа Р.-и.б.: к типу 1 относятся одноцепочечные белки, обладающие активностью N-гликозидазы; к типу 2 относятся белки, состоящие из двух полипептидов. Инактивация рибосом осуществляется через депуринизацию аденина, расположенного в определенном месте большой рибосомной РНК. Р.-и.б. относятся к токсинам, обладающим антипатогенной активностью. Многочисленные Р.-и.б. обнаружены в растениях, у которых они осуществляют защитную функцию от микробов и вирусов; напр., травянистое растение Trichosanthes anguina содержит Р.-и.б. типа I, названный трихоангуин (trichoanguin); листья сахарной свеклы (Beta vulgaris L.) содержат индуцируемые вирусами Р.-и.б. типа I; к Р.-и.б. типа II относятся вискумин, рицин, агглютинин рицина и др.см. также трихосантинТолковый биотехнологический словарь.
